Disabled Access?

The salon is located within the Mucklestone Business Centre which is a series of units made from the conversion of barns.

Our unit itself is a converted hayloft and is accessed by a handful of flagstone steps from the outside. This regrettably means that disabled access to the salon is quite limited and not particularly wheelchair friendly.

To compensate for this we offer a collection service from around the local area; For customers who are a 'Blue Badge'  holder we will gladly offer to collect your pets for each appointment Free Of Charge.

Please see our Collections Page for more details on our collections service.

Do You Accept Large Dogs?

Absolutely – At Scruffies we love big dogs!!

We know from personal family experience it can be difficult to find a groomer who will take on larger breeds – often restricting services only to smaller breeds, or even to the bizarre extreme of requiring sedation first!

We like to think we’re different

So long as our equipment is able to safely cope with your dog, we’ll happily try and tailor our service to accommodate you.

Get in touch using the details on our Contact Page and we’ll gladly try and help.

Do You Offer Hand Stripping?

Yes - we can offer 'Hand Stripping' where it is beneficial for certain breeds (e.g. Border Terriers)

The process is more labour intensive and takes additional time to complete, but you should find that the pets coat is more manageable and sheds less - resulting in longer breaks between visits to the groomers.

The full benefit of coat 'Hand Stripping' is best achieved from an early age 18mths+ - it may be difficult to perform and achieve the best results, on pets which have had their coat previously clipped.

Please Contact Us to discuss if 'Hand Stripping' would be suitable for your pet.

Can You Collect My Pet?

Absolutely!

We know from our own personal experience how challenging it can be trying to transport pets, passengers and shopping around.

Why not let us take some of the strain by collecting and returning your pet(s) to you for your appointments, in our fully insured and equipped vehicle?

Please see our Collections Page for details on collections, the areas covered and the current costs.

Caveats:

  • Collections must be booked alongside arranging an appointment. We don't currently operate a drop-in service for appointments or collections.
  • Collections are for the transport of customers pets only - our insurance does not extend to passengers unfortunately.
  • We are only currently able to organise collections around our morning appointment slot of 9:30am. We will confirm the exact drop-off time with you on the day but this is normally around 12pm.

Do You Accept Credit/Debit Cards?

Yep!

Using the services of our payment provider, we can happily accept the following popular UK cards:

  • VISA
  • VISA Electron
  • Mastercard
  • Maestro
  • American Express

Our card machine is both 'Magstripe' and the latest 'Chip & Pin' ready, so we have most eventualities covered!

How Much Does It Cost For.....?

Our pricing is calculated on a straight forward time & materials basis - larger breeds and more intensive services such as 'hand-stripping' will attract a higher charge etc.

However, due to the wide range of differences in breeds, coat styles, sizes and the individual requirements of each customer, it is very difficult to give a fixed service price.

Please get in touch with us via our Contact Page and we'll be happy to discuss your specific requirements and give you a quote.

Is There A Charge For Paying By Credit/Debit Card?

Yes and No....

For each card transaction our payment provider processes on our behalf, there is currently a 2.75% processing fee.

However, we absorb this charge internally and do not pass this on to our customers - this is a cost that we accept is a reasonable trade off for offering flexibility and convenience to our customers.

Should this change at any point in the future, we will make it clear at the point of sale.

Therefore, there is no additional charge to our customers who choose to pay for our services using a Debit or Credit card.

Health & Hygiene Go To Top

Health Check - Exclusions

Our Health Check process is, as we describe it a 'Visual MOT' to check the overall external condition of each pet prior to undertaking the grooming process. This helps us to ensure that they are fit & healthy and that any techniques we would perform during the grooming process, are safe for each animal.

Depending upon the results of the Health Check we may need to modify the grooming process (such as changing shampoo's etc.) and/or cancel elements should we feel that it is not suitable to continue at that time.

If we do identify anything during the process, we will pass these details onto you when you collect your pet and offer some advice on suitable next steps, which – in the majority of cases – is to seek the advice of your vet.

Please note:

Whilst the team at Scruffies are suitably trained in the latest techniques for safe handling of animals and administering of first aid, we are not medically trained and any information provided is given 'in good faith' to assist in the care and well-being of our customers pets.

All concerns or treatment of any issues affecting a pet should be discussed with a trained medical professional.  In severe cases – where an animal is, in our opinion, in considerable suffering – we will immediately seek the advice of a vet as outlined under our Terms & Conditions.

Anal Gland Expression

Whilst historically it has been a service which some groomers have provided, Scruffies - as a member of the BDGA - follows the latest industry guidelines as supported by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.

Within the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966, it outlines that "...animals are treated only by those people qualified to do so. These restrictions apply where the ‘treatment’ is considered to be the practice of ‘veterinary surgery’... specifically where it involves entry into a bodily cavity."

Put simply if a pet is suffering with issues relating to their Anal Glands, then the underlying condition and root cause needs to be investigated as a priority and this should be performed by a qualified Vet.

We therefore do not offer this as part of our standard services at this time.

Ear Plucking

Whilst historically it has been a service which some groomers have provided, Scruffies - as a member of the BDGA - follows the latest industry guidelines supported by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.

Within the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966, it outlines that "...animals are treated only by those people qualified to do so. These restrictions apply where the ‘treatment’ is considered to be the practice of ‘veterinary surgery’... specifically where it involves entry into a bodily cavity."

As part of our Full Groom service, we perform ear cleaning and excess hair removal from the outer-ear only.

Activities concerning the inner-ear, such as plucking of hair, removal of deep detritus or any form of medical treatment (e.g. drops) should only be performed under the supervision of a qualified Vet and is therefore not a service we currently offer.

Teeth Cleaning

Whilst historically it has been a service which some groomers have provided, Scruffies - as a member of the BDGA - follows the latest industry guidelines, supported by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.

Within the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966, it outlines that "...animals are treated only by those people qualified to do so. These restrictions apply where the ‘treatment’ is considered to be the practice of ‘veterinary surgery’... specifically where it involves entry into a bodily cavity."

There are many over the counter products such as medicated chews & toothpastes, available from supermarkets and pet supply stores, which customers can regularly use to keep their pets teeth clean.

For pets with oral hygiene issues, the use of more in depth steps may be required and this should be performed under the supervision of a qualified Vet.

Whilst we perform a visual health check on each pet as part of our Grooming Services - which includes the overall condition of the teeth & mouth, we do not offer teeth cleaning as part of our standard services at this time.
